Rooftop Saunas runs private sauna cabins in London. Boomdevs replaced their booking software with a custom platform, built in three months and ready to sell as SaaS.
Booking Platform Development: Building a Modular SaaS Platform for Rooftop Saunas
A sauna session is simple. Book a slot. Sweat. Plunge. Go home.Running hundreds of those sessions a week is not.
Rooftop Saunas runs private sauna cabins across more than one London location. Every slot has its own price. Every location has its own schedule. And their old booking software was costing them money.
They asked Boomdevs for custom booking management software built around how they actually work. With one extra condition: build it so it could one day be sold to other businesses as a product.
We built it in three months, with a team of five.

“Boomdevs delivered exactly what we needed right on time. The new booking system has made our day-to-day smoother, and their team was easy to work with the whole way through.“
COO, Rooftop Saunas
The Goal
Replace the old system with one platform that runs the business. Bookings, pricing, customers, payments, notifications and analytics, all in one place.
It also had to plug straight into the existing WordPress website. Customers should keep booking where they always had, without noticing anything changed except that it works better.
The Challenge
A long feature list. A three-month deadline. No room to cut corners, because bookings had to keep flowing the whole time.
The platform needed:
• Booking Management: Advanced scheduling and dynamic pricing across multiple locations.
• Service Management: Managing various services offered by Rooftop Saunas.
• Customer & Agent Management: Profiles for customers, and workflows for the staff handling them.
• Payment Integration: Integrating Square Payments for seamless transactions.
• Automation: Automating different operational aspects, including notifications and service management.
• WordPress Integration: Developing a custom plugin to connect the booking system to their WordPress site.
Project Scope
Boomdevs was responsible for:
• Research and Wireframing: We mapped every booking scenario before designing anything.
• UI/UX Design: A clean web app design for customers booking a slot, and for staff managing the day.
• Full-stack Development: Four full-stack developers and one WordPress developer, with React for the interactive front end.
• Payment Integration: Square Payments, connected through our software integration work.
• Automation: Notifications and service management that run without staff input.
• WordPress Plugin Development: A custom plugin that puts booking forms and calendars on the existing site. This is the kind of work our CMS integration team does.
Key Features
The platform included
• Advanced Analytics Dashboard: Live data on bookings, sales and performance. Our data analytics approach shaped what the team sees first.
• Booking Management: A multi-location booking system with complex scheduling and dynamic pricing for every site.
• Customer & Agent Management: Profiles and workflows that keep front-desk work simple.
• Coupons & Membership Points: Incentives for customer loyalty and retention.
• Push Notifications & WhatsApp Integration: Keeping users informed with automated updates.
• Campaign Management: Tools for managing promotional campaigns.
• Modular SaaS Design: Built with modularity in mind so the platform could be resold as a SaaS product to other businesses.
• WordPress Connector Plugin: Integrating booking forms and calendars with their WordPress site.
Challenges Overcome
The primary challenge was the tight deadline of three months, combined with the large feature set. To meet this challenge, Boomdevs
• A dedicated team from day one. Four full-stack developers and one WordPress developer worked on the project full-time. No shared attention, and no waiting for someone to free up.
• A stack built for speed. React on the front end, Django and Python on the back end, and PHP for the WordPress plugin. Tools the team knew well, so features could be built and connected fast.
• Weekly check-ins and research before every sprint. We met the client every week and researched each sprint’s requirements before starting it. That way, nothing had to be rebuilt late.
• Software testing and migration before launch. We tested every booking path and moved all the data from the old system before switching over. Moving off legacy software safely is its own skill, and it’s what our application modernization work focuses on.

Results & Outcomes
The platform was highly successful:
• Increased Bookings: The custom-built software streamlined operations, resulting in more bookings.
• Business Growth: The modular and automated system allowed the client to save time and money, preventing financial losses that occurred with their previous software.
• SaaS Potential: The platform was built modularly, allowing Rooftop Saunas to potentially sell it as a SaaS product to other companies.
Conclusion
Here’s the lesson for any business that runs on bookings: saunas, studios, clinics, rentals. Off-the-shelf booking tools work fine until your pricing or locations get complicated. Then you end up bending your business around the software.
Custom software flips that around. It fits how you already work, and it can even become a product you sell. If that sounds like your business, we can build it. Or start smaller with a SaaS MVP and grow from there.
